The great news is that classic rock radio has kept alive all of the magical 70’s bands, from Heart to Kansas to Supertramp….retail shops keep programming in Steve Miller Band, as you pick out your veggies at the local market! The problem is, that these formats are rigid, and only play the most obvious, commercial hits by these artists…For example…with Heart, you are pretty much going to hear Magic Man, Barracuda and perhaps, Straight On…..That’s all well and good, but it’s only scratching the surface.

Surely, the format can be loosed up a bit to play Dog and Butterfly, There’s the Girl, Stranded, or Bebe Le Strange. Luckily, I live by 2 local stations that actually respond to listeners…i will gladly pass along Kruz 103 FM in Ventura for you to listen online, as well as the classic Ktyd in Santa Barbara Ca. Let’s stream these awesome stations across the country, and reward them for playing more versatile cuts.

My hope is that you enjoy my memories of pop culture, and use it as a guidestone, to forage much deeper into these forests. Try some deep cuts with Heart like Minstrel Wind, or Dreamboat Annie, just for starters. Buy the records, in some format, support the artists…Check out the new stuff from Heart, like Hey You from Red Velvet Car. Bug your local Djs! I’m glad to be pointing a flashlight into some deep woods, filled with rich, lush and vibrant music, not to be forgotten….
